Miracle Whip has a fairly new commercial out, and it riffs on old Universal Monster movies with an ode to Frankenstein and The Wolf Man. A group of angry villagers turn out with torches to protest the creation of a new monster – Miracle Whip, with the bottle hiding in the cottage of a cute little Puritan girl.

“It’s sweet and tangy,” she replies calmly when confronted by the leader. Miracle Whip looks on in silence, as though its edgy flavor speaks for itself. The villagers are flummoxed by this response, and head home. Still, the commercial leaves me with one question: what really does make up Miracle Whip? It’s an amalgamation of different food parts, and because it’s not quite mayonnaise, it does have considerable similarities to the Frankenstein monster.
